Newsletter Week 8, Term 1
Principal Comment As we near the end of Week 8, I have been impressed with our tamariki in class who are focused on their learning and role-modelling our ICARE Value of Challenge eke panuku. This makes me a super proud Principal alongside seeing our hardworking staff delivering meaningful and interesting learning programmes.
Special News Good luck to Emma who is now on maternity leave. We wish her, Matt and the boys all the best with the new arrival of their baby girl! We love your bubbly personality and smile that lights up our world!
We would like to welcome Farida Davis as our new office administrator maternity leave cover who will start on Monday.
Attendance and Engagement We continue to focus on this MoE initiative to ensure all children are regularly attending school. Our target is to have 90% of our tamariki attending school regularly. Thank you for your support with our target.

NZEI Strike We appreciated the great support teachers and principals received. To reiterate we have concern for:
- Increasing classroom release time.
- More professional learning and development.
- Increasing support for children with higher needs.
- Reducing the teacher-student ratio in our classes.
It is important for the Government to address the issues around class sizes and learning support that we urgently need. As teachers, we want the best for every student under our care and to do that, we need more funding and resources. It has been an ongoing issue for schools for a long time and it needs to be addressed by the Government. Generations are and will be impacted for many years to come unless it is addressed.

Teacher Only Day On Monday the 24th April is a TOD for teachers to work on the curriculum refresh and other learning priorities for our school.
Black and White day Thank you for supporting this special day. Tahuna School raised $109 for Hawkes Bay and Tairawhiti Schools who were affected by the floods.
